A selection of slightly frightening drawings

I’m so so excited to let you know I’ve got my second exhibition! From the 29th of August until 28th November at the Art of Tea in Didsbury.  You are invited to the celebration launch night on the 29th August.  If you’ve not yet visited the Art of Tea you’re in for a real treat… stop by from 7:30pm for a few beers, some delicious pizza and sweet music by Laurence Boot.  I’ll be there and so will my selection of brand-new-never-before-seen- merchandise.  Oh, and some drawings by me on the walls 🙂

Go to the Art of Tea blog for more info.  Really really hope to see you there ♥  Lots of love x x

Fresh young blood

Posted in Graphic Design, Illustration, workshops by nicolarowlands on July 9, 2010

Earlier this week I ran an illustrative graphic design workshop at Ashton Sixth Form College.  Met some super-talented young people who were all so eager to learn and create and make cool stuff.  I gave them two briefs to choose from: one was to design something to submit to the RENMEN project.  Their other choice was to create a thank you card design.  Here are a few of the final illustrations:

Birdie design by Emily McCormick

Peacock card design by Jessica Patel

Mini moos

Posted in Graphic Design, Illustration by nicolarowlands on July 7, 2010

I had some more mini moo cards printed before I went away.  They came in handy more than a few times; perfectly pocket-sized self-promotion.  (The fact that they are neat and small had no bearing on the size of my day bag; needless to say I am a Rowlands and we always go prepared for any eventuality..)  If you want a handful of promo goods including a few stickers, a little mini print and some of these bad boys just drop me an email.

Going to the Chapel

Posted in Graphic Design, Illustration by nicolarowlands on July 5, 2010

This little job was so enjoyable.  I designed wedding invites and rsvp postcards which match the light pink and navy colour scheme the bride-to-be has chosen for the Big Day.  The invites and rsvps are printed on 350gsm matt uncoated brilliant white.  The client was full of brilliant ideas, and even hand-wrote me a thank you letter after receiving the goods.  I hope her wedding is beautiful!

California sleeping

Posted in Illustration, My drawings by nicolarowlands on July 5, 2010

So I’m back at my desk after a two week break.  We cruised down the west coast of California in a mustang convertible stopping along the way to eat ribs, conquer waterfalls, sip shakes, and pat dogs.   It was a fantastic break, good to refresh our eyes and minds.  I’m now working on some new stuff for an exhibition which will launch at the end of August.  Also got a few more graphic design workshops coming up, which are always awesomely enjoyable.  Here are a few new illustrations which I have done of motels in Santa Cruz… we stayed at the Islander which I must say at $55 a night was value for money with a capital V.

The COSMOS issue

Posted in Illustration, Magazines, Things to buy by nicolarowlands on June 10, 2010

Issue 22 of Blanket is out  and boy does it get better every time.  Not only will you find some spanky little illustrations by yours truly… the mag is jam packed full of awesome design- and might I say beautifully laid out.  Flip past beautiful cover art by Tanya Johnston, and you’ll find awesome illustration by Apeseven, Ester Grossi and Twisted Lemon, some FREE GREETING CARDS by cool dudes Sam Brewster and Anna Boniovanni, and a spot of uber talent photography by Lukasz Wierzbowski.  Not three bad, as my dad would say.
