I’ll be so sad to see you go

ripI had some sad news yesterday. Plus1 magazine, after 14 brilliant issues, will be no longer.  Economic shambles affecting even the best of us.

Incorporating Morrissey into your illustrations isn’t big, or clever. But it is funny..

MorrisseysoupboobkanyeQuick, get your hands on issue 13 of Plus1.  I’ve done some more illustration this time for an article on pop and postmodernism, written by Jo Barton.  Cover by Charming Baker who claims to be inspired by cheap makeup and tomatoes.  Yay!

Rebels with a cause

picture-91picture-111For the Objects of Desire feature in Plus1 I shortlisted the best beer to be desired for this issue… one of my picks was New Belgium’s Flat Tire.  Based in Fort Collins Colorado, New Belgium is the lovechild of two bike enthusiasts partial to a European brew.  Jeff and Kim beleive that ‘being green isn’t black and white’ and outline their sustainable work ethics which involve on-site energy production and endless encouragement to unplug and get on your bike.  I think their company is tops.  On their website you can ‘follow follies’ who are ‘making more from less and living large at the same time.’

Crumbs

picture-19picture-202picture-221 My time at plus1 is almost up, I’m finished here tomorrow… here’s a little bit of some graphics I was working on the other day for another illustration for an interview.  My final illustrated outcome is very different but I may do some screenprints of these guys when I get back to l’Universite…

I’m feeling eager beaver to get back to the Manchester…. I’ve got loads of plans starting with getting my book together which means starting to print out some nice polished bits and pieces.  Also on the list is to spring clean the website… at the moment it’s so SLOW and reminds me of when you’ve eaten some toast on the sofa and there’s like loads of crumbs in the creases between the cushions and you can’t sit comfortably because it’s a little itchy.  I think it’s time to throw all the pillows on the floor and get my sleeves rolled up for a good cleanup.

Crushed

crush1crush2crush10crush7crush8crush5Last year I interned at Brighton design agency Crush for 2 weeks in May.  They do some really nice work.  Here’s some of my favourites, including the big issue cover I got to work on whilst there.

Plus one more hour of the day please?

drown

I’m back at Plus1 this week and next.  Been drinking lots of coffee and happily working away.  The days go by so fast.  On monday I worked on an image collage for a regular slot listing various things that are underrated (like cheese sandwiches) and things that are overrated (ie trilbys) and was glad to get it done by the end of the day.  Yesterday I began working on an illustration for an article (I won’t say what it’s about- you will have to wait for the issue, it is a surprise)  and today I alongside my illustrations I did some hand lettering for another article.  Here’s a little peak at my letters..

It’s all going good.

If you’re into magazines of wholesome style and acuity I would sincerely recommend obtaining a copy of this month’s plus1.  If not, don’t. You will miss out on my articles and illustrations but that’s fine.
