“I like working with people who tell the truth”

Just listened to a talk by Johnathan Barnbrook of Barnbrook Design.  If you’re looking for fonts named after homicidal madmen you can download them from his website.  Apparantly this cd-which is among his claims to fame- has a ‘this way up’ label added for US stockists whose empoloyees are too thick to know which way it goes on the shelf…

Plus one more hour of the day please?

drown

I’m back at Plus1 this week and next.  Been drinking lots of coffee and happily working away.  The days go by so fast.  On monday I worked on an image collage for a regular slot listing various things that are underrated (like cheese sandwiches) and things that are overrated (ie trilbys) and was glad to get it done by the end of the day.  Yesterday I began working on an illustration for an article (I won’t say what it’s about- you will have to wait for the issue, it is a surprise)  and today I alongside my illustrations I did some hand lettering for another article.  Here’s a little peak at my letters..

It’s all going good.

Walsh Way

picture-31picture-41picture-54picture-61picture-7picture-8My Friday was all the better for attending a short seminar with our very own John Walsh, art director of Flux.  He’s recently taken the design of the magazine into his capable and letterpress-loving hands and it was interesting to see the behind-the-scenes mathematical grid system he’s developed for his page layout.

These are some of my favourites.  Ooooh they are just tops!!!

Complicated tasks become easy peasy when you’ve got a nice friendly little system, so let’s just eat some happy little jam sandwiches and hula hoops, yay.
